Eilish Cook talks to 22-year-old Liam, who has autism spectrum disorder and has embraced walking as a hobby that helps him find clarity and independence.
Liam, 22, was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder when he was two. Research into autism shows that people with the condition are more likely to have health problems like cardiovascular disease and obesity, compared to the general population. This because it can be much harder for them to exercise, particularly when they are adults.
However, Liam loves to go for walks regularly. He doesn’t view it as exercise, rather a hobby that inspires him, provides clarity, and teaches about the world around him.
